New Westminster city council has approved up to $125,000 to replace the roof of the Number 2 fire hall.
Located in the West End, the fire hall was built in 1947 and renovated in 2009. When the building's original roof was patched in March 2011 to control a leak, it was discovered that two sections of the ceiling material over the living/dining room had become delaminated and moisture was entering through the openings.
"Building management received reports expressing concern regarding the potential presence of mould accumulating in the ceiling openings," said a staff report. "Test samples were taken which confirmed the presence of mould at various locations in the plaster ceiling."
