There's a new editor for the New West Record, Tri-City News and Burnaby NOW and as the publications focus on digital delivery and engagement.
Kyle Balzer was named to the position today (Aug. 16) by Glacier Media, parent company of the three Metro Vancouver-based websites.
He joined Glacier in May 2021 as a digital, online and social media journalist.
Before moving back home to the Lower Mainland, Balzer spent five years with media outlets in Prince George, B.C., including Glacier's PrinceGeorgeMatters news site.
There, he also served an editor, which he believes can be of great help in taking the new position.
"How we receive news is changing once again, and as such, we will adapt," said Balzer.
"We have an awesome, community-driven team covering New Westminster. The public has seen them out and about, and we'll continue to be there for our neighbours in whatever way possible."
"Kyle has been a key part of the digital transformation with Glacier Media, and we are confident that he will continue to ensure the high standard of our local news coverage in these communities," added publisher Lara Graham.
Balzer graduated with distinction from BCIT's Broadcast and Online Journalism program in 2016.
Since then, his reporting experience has included education, Indigenous relations, community interests and sports.
Balzer is also a three-time award-winning journalist, including recognition from the BC Association of Broadcasters for his part in covering the 2017 B.C. wildfire season.
