TransLink named Neil Dubord the new chief officer of their police service last week after he was selected by the transit police board.
Dubord, 49, has the task of overseeing the 167 officers who patrol Metro Vancouver's SkyTrain stations and buses, and have the same authority as RCMP officers.
"The transit police board was looking for a person with on-the-ground policing experience," stated board chair Mark Reder in a press release.
Dubord began his law-enforcement career in the Edmonton Police Service in 1986, where he worked on neighbourhood foot patrols through downtown Edmonton.
The new chief also has experience as the commanding officer in hostage situations.
Eventually rising to the rank of deputy chief in Edmonton, Dubord oversaw the community-policing bureau and led internal reviews on police response to the H1N1 virus outbreak.
Dubord is scheduled to be sworn in on February 1, 2012.
The eight-member transit police board includes representatives from the RCMP, the Vancouver Police Department, as well as civilians.
