New board for foundation

Since this is my first Medical File column, allow me to take a moment to introduce myself. Although I've been with The Record for more than a decade now, I've just returned to my desk from a one-year maternity leave.

Since this is my first Medical File column, allow me to take a moment to introduce myself.

Although I've been with The Record for more than a decade now, I've just returned to my desk from a one-year maternity leave. I'm taking on the health care portfolio along with my assistant editor duties.

I'll be writing Medical File columns on a regular basis, so I'll be looking forward to finding out all about new happenings and interesting people in the city.

And now, down to business ...

New board The Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation has just announced its 2013-14 board of directors.

Doug Eveneshen has been named as the new vice-chair and Meldy Harris as secretary.

The appointments were announced by board chair Belle Puri and Adrienne Baker, president and CEO of the foundation.

They work with board members John Ashbridge, Frank Butzelaar, Sharon Domaas, Larry Kozak, Erin O'Halloran, Steve Osachoff, Gary Pooni, Helen Sparkes and Dr. Laurence Turner, along with treasurer Dwight Ross.

The foundation's vision is "to inspire giving and grow funding so patients have access to the best health care at RCH," a press release explains.

"I am very proud and grateful to be supported by this amazing team of board professionals as we embark on a new era for Royal Columbian Hospital and the foundation, which will be one of tremendous

growth and patient care transformation," Bakker said. "Each team member has a strong connection to RCH, and it shows in their commitment to help RCH move forward with its redevelopment."

New face in town Fraser Health has also just announced a new board member.

The province has appointed Karen Matty to the board. She replaces Arvinder S. Bubber.

"Our newest board member Karen Matty is very familiar with the demographic and other challenges facing our rapidly growing and aging communities," said David Mitchell, Fraser Health board chair, in a press release. "She brings professional experience ranging from health care and business to community service."

Matty is president of Matsqui Developments Co. Ltd., a second-generation family business in the real estate and lumber industries.

Earlier in her career, she was the head nurse of the pediatric ward for Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake.
