A company with child-care centres across Canada will be setting up shop in the Brewery District.

Peeter Wesik, chairman and president of Wesgroup Properties, said Kids & Company will be joining the roster of highly anticipated services and amenities that will be provided at the Brewery District, which is currently under construction in Sapperton.

"With their vision and mandate to continue as the leading provider of high-quality and flexible family care solutions in Canada, they are an organization that truly cares about all aspects of family care, and strive to provide an exceptional experience to both the children in their care and their parents," he said in a press release. "With the significant growth that the Sapperton community is experiencing, and will continue to as a result of the Brewery District, a high-quality child care amenity and operator has been a key component of Brewery District since the beginning. We are proud to welcome Kids & Company to the Brewery District family, and to the Sapperton community."

The new child care facility, which will include a 3,400-square-foot outdoor playground, will be located on the ground floor of the newly constructed, mixed-use building will also be home to the new TransLink and Transit Police headquarters, Browns Socialhouse, a pharmacy and coffee shop, as well as other retail services.

According to a press release from the Wesgroup, the New Westminster facility will be the fourth location in Metro Vancouver and the fifth in B.C. for Kids & Company.

Victoria Sopik, founder and CEO of Kids & Company, flew in from her home in Ontario to visit the New Westminster site Wednesday afternoon.

"We are really thrilled to be opening a location there," she told The Record. "The Wesgroup is a really progressive company."

Kids & Company offers about 50 centres across Canada and provides a range of services for various child-care needs, including "backup child care" when parents' regular child care isn't available. In one day, the company fielded 35 calls from families interested in the new centre.

"We are hoping spring," Sopik said about the opening dates. "You never really know in building construction for sure."

While she suspects employees at the Brewery District and neighbouring Royal Columbian Hospital will seek many of the facility's spaces, Sopik said spots will be open to all community members.

The child-care facility will have spaces for about 64 children from infant to preschool.
