More lane closures coming to the Pattullo Bridge this Thursday and Friday

You’ll be able to get to Surrey on the Pattullo – but you’ll have to find a different way back to New West

Lane closures planned overnight on Nov. 17 and 18 as part of the Pattullo Bridge replacement project.

If you were planning to drive over the Pattullo Bridge later this week, you’ll want to take note of some upcoming lane closures.

TransLink has announced that northbound lane closures will be taking place this week as part of the Pattullo Bridge replacement project. The northbound lanes – the ones heading into New Westminster – will be closed overnight on Thursday, Nov. 17 and Friday, Nov. 18.

“To ensure this work is completed safely, northbound Pattullo Bridge lane closures will be in place from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. both nights,” said a TransLink press release. “The bridge will remain open to pedestrians, cyclists and first responders at all times.”

TransLink is encouraging Pattullo Bridge users to take the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges as alternatives. N19 NightBus trips affected by the lane closures will be rerouted over the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges between New Westminster and Scott Road stations.

Customers should plan for up to 30 minutes of additional travel time, noted TransLink.

“One southbound lane toward Surrey on the Pattullo Bridge will remain open, but Royal Avenue eastbound will be reduced to a single lane east of Dufferin Street; the Royal Avenue on-ramp will remain open,” said the press release. “Travellers coming from McBride Boulevard will be detoured to use the Columbia Street on-ramp.”

To do the work necessary for the new crossing, the Pattullo Bridge replacement project previously had overnight lane closures in June, July and August. This week’s work marks the fourth and final lanes closures related to this part of the project.

“Work is underway to rehabilitate the Royal Avenue overpass as part of the Pattullo Bridge replacement project,” said a press release from the Pattullo Bridge replacement project team. “The first stage of work is being completed from the bridge connector roadway under the overpass and requires four overnight closures of the Pattullo Bridge in the northbound direction, as well as a closure of the bridge connector in New Westminster.”
