Modern art of books

From ebooks to tablets, there's more than one way to get your dose of reading

How do you read your books? There are a surprising number of ways.

You can read in print and ebook or listen on audiobook. You can read on paper, computer, eReader, tablet, phone and iPod. You can listen on CD, computer, MP3 player, iPod, phone and tablet.

What's not surprising is that even though the formats for books and magazines are changing you can still borrow them from the New Westminster Public Library. Electronic books (ebooks) can be borrowed from the Library to Go website, which is linked from the library's website www.nwpl.ca.

It doesn't matter if you live in New Westminster or Terrace.

Just pre-download the software from the website, login with your home library card, check out a book and you can read it on most devices.

A new addition to electronic reading is emagazines. These can be borrowed from the library in a partnership with Zinio.

All you need is your New Westminster library card and an email address.

The full colour magazine with links can be read on your computer, phone or tablet and once you've subscribed to the magazine you'll be notified when a new issue is available.

Find out more on our website by clicking on NWPL eLibrary.

A bonus with downloading ebooks, audiobooks and emagazines is that there are no overdue charges.

Find out more about borrowing ebooks and emagazines at an information session on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.

There will also be some popular eReaders on hand for you to look at and try. As space is limited, pre-register at 604-527-4667.

If you'd like to try out an eReader, the library also lends Kobo eReaders. They come preloaded with popular titles, but you can also try downloading ebooks from the Library to Go website.

And of course, books are still available in print in hardcover, large print, and paperback and in audiobook on compact disc.

Stop by the New Westminster public library at 716 Sixth Ave.
