David Phelan has lived in New Westminster for 10 years. His father was born and raised here and his grandparents were involved in community and sporting events throughout the city. His wife, Sarah, is a graduate of New Westminster Secondary School. Their sons are active in lacrosse, soccer and hockey. The oldest attends F.W. Howay, with the youngest soon to follow.

Phelan is a social studies teacher in Coquitlam, with a Master's degree in administration and leadership. His participation in the design charrette for the new Centennial high school (2014 completion date) will give him valuable insight into the construction of our district's new schools.

Phelan has also coordinated learning teams on the topic of effective integration of technology into classrooms.

"I am running because I believe my education and experience will enable me to fulfill the major challenge of our district: building schools that will meet the needs of our students for generations," said Phelan.

Phelan is one of four school board candidates being endorsed by the New Westminster and District Labour Council.
