A former B.C. massage therapist will not be allowed to reapply for his licence for five years after admitting to massaging a New Westminster client's breasts without her consent.

A former registered massage therapist who massaged a patient’s breasts at her New Westminster home without her consent won’t be allowed to reapply for his licence for another five years.

Kevin Leland An, 31, was charged with one count of sexual assault in June 2021 and pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of assault three months later.

He was granted a conditional discharge and one year of probation, meaning he will not have a criminal record and his case will be sealed by September 2024, according to the New Westminster provincial court registry.

But An won’t be able to reapply for registration with the College of Massage Therapists of B.C. for another five years under the terms of a consent order signed earlier this month.

An admitted he massaged a patient’s breasts under the draping without her consent while providing massage therapy services at the woman’s New Westminster home on May 25, 2021, according to the July 5 order.

He agreed to the cancellation of his registration and won’t be allowed to reapply for five years – and even then his registration won’t be guaranteed.

“He will not have an automatic right to registration and will be required to meet all legislative and bylaw requirements relating to registration, including those relating to good character, in effect at that time,” states the consent order.

An has also agreed to pay $2,500 in costs related to the college’s investigation.
