The New Westminster Police Department is warning local businesses about a man impersonating a police officer.
On July 2, at 6:45 p.m., the man entered a local veterinarian business and sat in the lobby for 20 minutes. Another customer was also in the store and paid his bill in cash.
Shortly afterwards, the man introduced himself as a police officer with a silver badge and asked to see the cash that the previous customer had paid with.
He told the clerk "there was an investigation" and was given the $250.
The man then gave the clerk a fake police file number and said he had to leave, but that he would return. The man left on foot and never returned. The badge he presented was not in a case or holder.
The man is described as Caucasian, 5-9 with a medium build and a scar on the lower left side of his lip. He was approximately 30 years old, with brown hair and stubble, and he was wearing a yellow or brown sweater-style jacket.
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
