A 23-year-old Surrey man now faces four charges after a Saturday morning incident in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue.

At approximately 2 a.m. on March 24, New Westminster police officers responded to a complaint of a man who had possibly been stabbed in the arm. The man was suffering from serious lacerations to one of his arms and transported to hospital for treatment.

After patrol members responded, they started an investigation, along with members of the New Westminster Police Service's major crime unit.

According to Staff Sgt. Paul Hyland, investigators soon determined that the man's wound was self-inflicted and may have occurred during an attempted break-and-enter.

The victims of the attempted break-and-enter were taken to hospital and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Alec Roberts, 23, of Surrey has now been charged with aggravated assault, assault, break-and-enter and mischief.

The New Westminster Police Service is asking anyone who has additional information on this incident to contact Staff Sgt. Chris Mullin or Sgt. Rob Boyd at 604-525-5411.
