New Westminster police are investigating after an alleged assault near a busy uptown intersection Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses called police around 3:15 p.m., when they saw a man and a woman arguing while walking along Sixth Avenue between Eighth and 10th streets. The witnesses alleged the man was becoming violent, grabbing the woman’s throat and pushing her around.
Officers arrived on scene shortly before 3:30 p.m. and located the man near 10th Street and Sixth Avenue, but they could not find the woman involved, according to New West Sgt. Diana McDaniel.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing, but McDaniel confirmed the man was arrested and charges are pending.
