New Westminster’s major crime unit is investigating an incident, but the details of the incident are unknown at this time.
Residents in the Hume Park area reported online seeing several police cars and police tape surrounding a portion of the park late Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning.
Police confirmed officers were in the park as part of an ongoing investigation but acting Sgt. Jeff Scott, spokesperson for the New Westminster Police Department, couldn’t provide any further information.
“Our major crime unit is investigating an incident, and they just needed to look at the area around Hume Park,” Scott told the Record.
Neither the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team nor the Coroners Service are involved in the investigation and everything is being handled “in house,” according to Scott.
“It’s not at that level,” he said.
Scott is expecting to release details about what kind of offence took place and what investigators were doing in the park soon but couldn’t be more specific.
