Last month trustee Michael Ewen would not confirm whether he would take another run at the school board in the upcoming civic election, but he has clearly made up his mind given that he has filed his nomination papers.

Ewen, the longest serving sitting trustee in the province (35 years), wouldn’t say for sure what his plan were, though did tell The Record that it was “unlikely” that he wouldn’t run.

"There are things I want to finish off still, such as obviously the secondary school and finances," he said.

At the time, Ewen said he wanted wait to see who all of the candidates were before making his decision.

"I don't feel the need to run forever, I just want to see who's running. I want to make sure that we have a good, progressive group of people that are going to run," he said.

In past elections, Ewen has received the endorsement of the New Westminster and District Labour Council. Ewen, a teacher in the Surrey school district, could not be reached for comment at press time to confirm whether he has the union support this time.

So far, Ewen, along with trustees James Janzen and Jonina Campbell are the only three incumbent trustees to turn in their nomination forms to confirm their candidacy. No word yet from trustees Casey Cook, David Phelan, MaryAnn Mortensen and Lisa Graham as to whether they will seek re-election. The deadline to get the nominations forms in is Friday (Oct. 10) at 4 p.m.
