The Labour Day long weekend is here, and it's time to enjoy yourself. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. Here are our suggestions for the Labour Day long weekend.

Drop by River Market for the Battle by the River, an event that will see Re-Up BBQ, Tre Gali Gelato Caffe, Wild Rice, Crepes Des Amis, Pamola Bakery and Donald's Market fight for the bragging rights. For a minimum $2 donation (that goes to New Westminster Family Place), you can taste what these folks create on Saturday, Sept. 1. The food battle features tofu at 11 a.m., chicken at 1 p.m. and salmon at 3: 30 p.m. at 810 Quayside Dr.

Get artsy at The Elemental Show, a twovenue exhibition by New West Artists that focuses on the concept of what each artist considers to be elemental to their art. The opening reception for the Network Hub venue takes place on Friday, Aug. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. at River Market (#210-810 Quayside Dr.), and the opening reception for the New Westminster Arts Council Gallery will be on Sunday, Sept. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the gallery located in Centennial Lodge in Queen's Park. The Network Hub exhibition runs until Sept. 27, and the Arts Council Gallery show runs until Sept. 29.

Take a stroll through the rose garden at Queen's Park. Take a seat on one of the garden's benches, and enjoy the sights and smells of the roses. The rose garden is located at the rear of Queen's Park Arena.

Check out the New Westminster Lawn Bowling Club, which is holding its Labour Day Club Tournament on Monday, Sept. 3 starting at 10 a.m. Visitors are welcome, and the club is open to people aged 19 and older. The club, located in Moody Park, has playing schedules designed to accommodate working and retired members. For more information, call 604-515-0012.

-0012. 5 Help out those less fortunate by making a donation to the Plant a Row/Grow a Row program, which accepts fresh produce that it then donates to the New Westminster Food Bank. If you've got some extra fruits or veggies from your garden (or the grocery store), drop by the collection depot that's taking place on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas More Collegiate parking lot, 7450 12th Ave. (at Kingsway) in Burnaby.
