Three New Westminster folk have the heart (and guts) required to rappel 200 feet down a skyscraper for a children's charity.
Jeffrey Price and Larry Ho, representing the Starlight Casino on Team Starlight, and Jancice Bannister from Team Live Laugh Jump have all been named as participants in the Easter Seals Drop Zone, a fundraiser that appeals to adventurous types to raise money for the Easter Seals House and Easter Seals Camps. The house takes in children and families who need to travel to Vancouver from far-flung places to get medical treatment. The camps gather together children with disabilities for a week of summer fun.
To get into Drop Zone, Price, Ho and Bannister had to raise at least $1,500 for Easter Seals, which is run by the British Columbia Lions Society for Children with Disabilities.
The society gives participants the title of "Superhero for the day" for their efforts and courage, and inducts them into the exclusive Easter Seals Superhero Club.
On Tuesday, Sept. 13th, New Westminster's superheroes will join about 80 others and rappel 20 storeys down the side of the AXA building at 999 West Hastings St. in Vancouver. Organizers say to expect the scene to have a "Gotham City" feel to it.
Since the project got started six years ago, 392 superheroes have raised more than $1.1 million for children with disabilities, a press release from the society states.
Prizes are awarded to the top fundraisers and to those who wear the best superhero costumes.
