Local writer Maria Pidgorna is one of 12 finalists for the Writers' Union of Canada's 20th annual short prose competition.

Pidgorna, known by her pen name Maria Reva, was selected from 505 entrants for the competition that "aims to discover, encourage, and promote new writers of short prose who are not yet published in book format, in order to provide opportunity and exposure to developing writers," according to the union's website.

Pidgorna's work, called The Methodology of Grace, was born out of research she did on children with Asperger's Syndrome and focuses on a young woman who tries to understand social grace while delivering mail at an IT firm.
