The New Westminster animal shelter has upgraded its area for cats waiting for adoption after a local thrift shop donated $5,000 for the purchase of "cat condos."

The Shop 4 Paws Thrift Store, located at 615 12th St., donates a percentage of its profits each month to the city animal shelter.

"I'm an animal lover, so I'm proud that I'm able to help lost or stray animals as they are transitioning to new homes," said owner and operator, Roni-Lyn Sanders, in a press release. "Our decision to partner with the city comes from a desire to contribute positively to my community and make a difference."

The cat condos are specifically designed for animal shelters and incorporate separate litter and hiding units, as well as sleep and exercise areas to promote healthier animals and increase adoptions, according to the release.

"We are constantly looking for ways to improve our facilities and make the animals as comfortable as possible during their stay at the shelter," said Mayor Wayne Wright, in the release. "We would like to extend our gratitude to Shop 4 Paws for their commitment to our city's needy animals."
