The New Westminster Police Pipe Band attended the World Pipe Band Championships held on Glasgow Green in Scotland on Aug. 11.
Under the musical direction of pipe major Angus MacPherson and lead drummer Cam Dodson, the band finished 13th out of 15 competitors in their heat at the Grade 2 level, the second highest of eight levels.
The band is the current North American champion and made its seventh appearance at the world championships. The band has finished in the top-four four times.
This year's competition featured a total of 15 bands in the same heat as the New West Police Pipe band and 14 in the other heat, with six bands advancing from each heat to compete in the finals. The overall winner was Denny and Dunipace Gleneagles, which topped both its heat and the final 12-band Grade 2 competition.
