There's still time to enjoy the works of two local artists who are currently displaying their creations in the New Westminster Public Library.
Katherine Freund-Hainsworth has a show that's based on Heritage B.C.'s 2013 Heritage Week theme of Good Neighbours: Heritage Homes and Neighbourhoods. Freund-Hainsworth's work includes pen and ink drawings of heritage homes, mixed media collages and historic artifacts.
Harvey Tuura's acrylics include visual representation of winter, and one of the famous Iditarod race.
You'll find his pieces in the On the Ramp gallery.
Both displays run until the end of February and can be viewed any time during the library's open hours. The library is located at 716 Sixth Ave.
THRIFTY FOODS HELPS KIDSPORT
Thrifty Foods is lending a helping hand to KidSport New West.
The chain of grocery stores recently launched the Orange You Glad You Helped a Kid fundraiser, which will help KidSport Canada chapters in communities served by Thrifty Foods stores.
"As part of our ongoing commitment to improve the quality of life in our communities, the in-store campaign will help hundreds of children join organized sport activities like soccer, hockey and karate in the next year," Jim Dores, general manager of Thrifty Foods, said in a press release. "With a goal to send as many kids as possible into a season of sport . Thrifty Foods will donate $1 from the sale of every four-pound bag of certified organic Buck Brand navel oranges to a dozen KidSport chapters in B.C."
The Orange You Glad You Helped a Kid fundraiser runs until March 5. Thrifty Foods is located at the Brewery District, 270 East Columbia St.
Thrifty Foods has been supporting KidSport Canada through its Greater Victoria chapter since 2002. The New Westminster chapter formed last year and has already helped local kids experience the fun of playing organized sports.
CAREER FAIR AT DOUGLAS COLLEGE
Douglas College is giving community members a chance to explore a variety of career options.
The college is holding its 23rd annual career exploration fair on Monday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the concourse of the New Westminster campus at 700 Royal Ave. The free event, hosted by the Douglas College Alumni Association, gives students, alumni and community members a chance to explore career options and find out what kinds of skills and knowledge they need for the future workplace.
The exhibitors at the career exploration fair will include: B.C.
