If you know what field you are interested in but not sure exactly which job might be right for you, check out one of the many books in our Great Jobs series. Sample titles include Great Jobs for English Majors and Great Jobs for Business Majors. Don't have a degree? You might want to look at America's Top 100 Jobs for People without a Four-Year Degree.
Now you're ready to find out if you can make a living at your dream job. To see the salaries and job outlooks for people in your chosen profession, you can view information at websites such as Salary Wizard Canada, Work Futures, or Working in Canada. Find links through the library's website www.nwpl.ca. Click on the purple Resources tab, then Jobs and Career Resources from the menu on the left-hand side. Volunteering is a great way to test-drive a job before committing. Check out websites like Community Volunteer Connections or Go Volunteer. When you're ready to start applying for jobs, touch up your resumé and cover letter using tips from great guides like Amazing Resumes: What Employers Want to See and How to Say It and Step-By-Step Cover Letters: Build a Cover Letter in 10 Easy Steps Using Personal Branding.
Then look on the library's Jobs and Career Resources page for links to job posting websites including Job Bank and Eluta, a search engine for new jobs across Canada.
