Letter: New West should consider restrictions on power washing

This letter writer believes watering restrictions in the summer should also include a clause about the use of power or pressure washers.
Power washing
Power washing, or pressure washing, has become an inconvenience, a New West resident claims.

The Editor:

I believe that power washing has become the new bane of those of us who wish to conserve water.

Returning home from a walk along The Quay, I could hear one of my neighbours using a power washer — probably on his patio.

Now, this doesn’t sound like something that would take a lot of water, you say, but what if we all did this?

A few weeks back, I saw someone doing the public sidewalk in front of their building — imagine the amount of water used up if we all did that.

So, friends and neighbours; if aesthetics are that important to you, please consider using our clean drinkable water to clean your horizontal surfaces only in the rainy season.

Come to think of it, we have watering restrictions for lawns, shrubs, and gardens, maybe we need similar restrictions for concrete and asphalt.

Perhaps there is a city councillor out there who would like to consider this.

I would be very interested to know what your readers think of this idea.
