The Royal City will once again be a part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, which goes from June 5 to 8.

On June 8, at 10 a.m., officers from the Transit Police, New Westminster Police Service and the Justice Institute of B.C. will be running together from the Justice Institute's offices on McBride Boulevard to New Westminster City Hall.

The run is an international event, held in more 30 countries, which builds awareness and support for Special Olympics and raises money to help fund Special Olympics athletes training and competing.

According to the Special Olympics B.C. website, Special Olympics B.C. athlete Pat Johnson is a fixture at the event, having participated in the run for the past five years and having run hundreds of kilometres through Lower Mainland communities.

Johnson traditionally runs every step of the four-day Lower Mainland Torch Run, beginning in Abbotsford on the Wednesday and winding through 14 communities before ending up in Delta at the journey's end, logging more than 100 kilometres.

The torch run "makes me happy," said Johnson.

Johnson has completed 50 full and half-marathons and runs at least four times per week.
