Feeling charitable? Then this is a good weekend to stay in New Westminster and support local organizations. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend and this weekend's offerings include a concert and Christmas bazaar.
Here are our recommendations for Nov. 23 to 26:
1Get into the Christmas spirit at Royal City Centre, when Bob's and Lolo welcome Santa to town. The popular children's singers will perform on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. Families are invited to drop by between 12 and 4 p.m. and enjoy face painting and crafts for kids.
Children who visit Santa will receive an activity book courtesy of mall merchants. In the coming weeks, residents can bring their pets in for photos with Santa every Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. Royal city Centre is located at 610 Sixth St. - at the corner of Sixth and Sixth.
2 Support the community outreach programs at St. Barnabas Church at its annual Christmas bazaar. The church has been collecting Christmas items all year long in preparation for the sale that takes place on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Barnabas church hall, 1010 Fifth Ave. You'll also be able to buy hot dogs and hot chocolate.
3Enjoy the musical offerings of Fountainview Academy Orchestra and Choir, when they present their Holy Night concert at Massey Theatre. The concert takes place on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. at 735 Eighth Ave. Admission is free.
The concert is being held in support of the local food bank, so people are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item. For more information, visit www.fountainofmusic.com.
4Get all shook up when Darren Lee and the Memphis Flash (who are billed as the world's number one Elvis tribute) take to the stage at Massey Theatre, on Friday, Nov. 23 at 7: 30 p.m. Tickets are $32.50 (plus facility fee and service charges). For tickets, call 604-521-5050. Massey Theatre is located at 735 Eighth Ave.
5Drop by The Wonder of Learning: The Hundred Languages of Children exhibition at River Market before it heads to its next location in Kentucky.
kend The traveling exhibition, which has been held in countries like Japan, Germany, Turkey and New Zealand, addresses the philosophy and teaching practices of Reggio Emilio, a town in Italy. You'll find it on the upper level of River Market (810 Quayside Dr.) until Dec. 8.
