Juniors flirt with Zone 4 lead

The St. Thomas More student posted an under-par-71 to finish two shots behind winner Jordan Lu and one shy of runnerup Josh Zhang, both of Vancouver.

Tolusso opened the Zone 4 season two weeks earlier with a win at the Capilano junior invite.

STM schoolmate Kevin Vigna was tied for 10th at two-over-par. Lucas Gatto finished in a group knotted in 19th place, which included Burnaby's Alex Françis.

The following day, Françis shot a two-under-par 70 to finish second at the Richmond junior invitational on April 29. Zhang won the event with a sizzling 67 on the par-72 Richmond club links.

Tolusso finished at even par to place seventh, while Vigna was two strokes behind in 12th place.

Michael Belle of Burnaby was recently named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference golf second team.

The St. Thomas More grad and sophomore Simon Fraser University student was one of 12 golfers named to the NCAA Division II regional squad.

Belle placed seventh in the conference this season with an average score of 74.4 in seven events.

He recently placed ninth at the Great Northwest championships, after flirting with the lead, including an openinground two-under 69.

Belle led the Clan in every tournament this season and posted three top-10 finishes. He was also named regional golfer of the week on two separate occasions.

At the regionals, Nicole Jordan placed eighth for SFU with twin rounds of 82 in the women's competition.
