Jonina Campbell will be doing double duty on the political front.
Before becoming the Green Party of B.C. candidate in New Westminster, Campbell honed her political skills as a trustee on the New Westminster board of education. With the provincial election behind her, Campbell plans to continue serving as a school trustee and to building the Greens in New Westminster. “My commitment was always to build the B.C. Greens here in New Westminster. Over the next four years we are going to be working very hard,” she told the Record on election night. “I will continue my work on the school board and I will continue to work hard on behalf of the kids of the New Westminster School District.”
In addition to her role on school board, Campbell said she will continue to support some of the issues she heard about from constituents during the provincial election campaign.
“I am going to get involved in making sure that I can support things like mental health and addictions here in New West, affordable housing. If I heard something in the election, it was that affordability and people on fixed incomes is a serious concern for people in New Westminster and across B.C.,” she said. “We have two big parties that are now going to have to work on behalf of the people and deal with these issues. I am going to be there and the Greens that are elected are going to be there.”
Campbell is looking forward to being involved with the B.C. Greens provincially and building the local riding association. Having worked with the province to secure funding for a replacement for New Westminster Secondary School, Campbell said she’s up for the task.
“I stuck with the high school project - I can do this,” she smiled.
