Is there a child in your house starting kindergarten in New West this fall? Here's a new program that may interest you.

Children who are starting kindergarten in New West this fall can get a head start on school with a new preschool program run by the school district.

The New Westminster school district has launched a new program called Queensborough JUST B4. It’s designed for kids who will be entering kindergarten this fall — those who were born in 2018 and turn five this calendar year — and who are registered for a School District 40 school.

“The overall goal of our approach is to foster a love of learning in each child,” explains a post on the school district website.

The program will emphasize all areas of a child’s development — emotional, physical, intellectual, creative, social and practical life skills. Sessions will combine both individual and group activities.

It’s the first time the program is being offered, and the pilot program will run out of the Strong Start Centre at Queensborough Middle School (833 Salter St.).

Families can sign up for one of two options:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. ($200 per month); or
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. ($150 per month)

JUST B4 will follow the school calendar, so it will close over spring break, through summer vacation and on professional development days.

Sessions start on Feb. 1 and Feb. 2.

A few spaces remain for this year’s registration, as of the writing of this post. Families can find out more and sign up online at the SD40 Early Learning page.
