The New Westminster Historical Society is hosting a special evening featuring the history of The Westminster Club this month.

The private business and social club was formed in 1889 and is one of B.C.'s oldest. Club headquarters are atop the Westminster Building, and since the building is up for sale, the club will likely change or come to an end.

The Aug. 21 presentation takes place at the local library and will include the information on the history of the club, some of its presidents, and its various locations before the club moved to the Westminster Building in 1912. There will also be historical anecdotes and commentary on the roles and changes of similar groups over the years.

The historical presentation is based on a book authored by Record columnists Archie and Dale Miller, which was published in 2003.

The society is holding the event on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Plaskett Room of the New Westminster Public Library, which is on 716, Sixth Ave.

The program is free, and registration is not required.
