Here's where to find the cheapest gas in New West

Prices are still above $2 per litre in New Westminster, but not as far above the threshold as seven days ago.

There's not a lot of relief for New Westminster motorists looking to top up their vehicle's gas tank this weekend.

However, all but one of the city's local fuel stations has recorded a dip in prices compared to last Friday, April 5.

GasBuddy.com's latest reports shows $2.04 per litre as the cheapest gas available for New Westies, located at Centex and GOMarket on Ewen Avenue (see list below).

That's a drop of a single cent — same as six other outlets — from $2.05 per litre last week, and is considered one of the most affordable in Metro Vancouver.

New West's biggest decline in price was six cents from $2.12 to $2.06 per litre at the Esso and 7-Eleven on Sixth Avenue.

The local average price for fuel has decreased by a cent to $2.10 per litre.

A three-cent increase in carbon taxes that took effect April 1, a seasonal switch to summer blend gasoline, and generally strong global oil prices, have combined to push prices at the pump across the Metro Vancouver region.

Gasoline prices generally rise in the summer because refiners switch to a summer blend, which is slightly more costly to produce, and because the demand for gasoline increases in summer when Canadians start travelling more.

Meanwhile, Costco in Kamloops (1675 Versatile Dr.) still hosts the cheapest gas in the province at a price of of $1.59 per litre — a drop of four cents from last Friday.

B.C.'s lowest prices for fuel can be found around the Okanagan and north-central interior, ranging from $1.62 to $1.68 per litre, according to GasBuddy.com.
