Gas prices are still on the rise in New Westminster.

The city's cheapest price for fuel sits at $1.89 per litre, as of this publication, March 15, according to GasBuddy.com's latest report (see list below).

That's an increase of six cents from $1.83 per litre recorded last Friday, March 8, located at the Centex and GOMarket on Ewen Avenue.

Despite the local uptick, the New West threshold is actually the fifth least expensive price for fuel in all of Metro Vancouver — seven cents more than the $1.82 per litre at the Lougheed Highway Husky in Port Coquitlam.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, recently told Glacier Media that refineries are in their "shoulder seasons" and are undergoing maintenance.

This can slow down production, he explained, leading to an uptick in local fuel prices.

"Broadly, we believe that gas prices are beginning their seasonal rise as refinery maintenance and the transition to summer gasoline come into play."

The average price for fuel in New West has gone up four cents to $1.95 from $1.91 per litre last Friday.

Meanwhile, Salmon Arm residents are relishing the fact that the Okanagan city — located nearly 450 km northeast of New Westminster — is home to the most affordable gas in the province.

Its Super Save Gas (50 3rd St. NW) dropped three cents in the last seven days to $1.52 per litre. The CO-OP on 10th Avenue NE has posted $1.54 per litre.
