New month, new trend of weekly gas prices in New Westminster — and not in the right direction.
The cheapest available is $1.84 per litre at the Centex and GOMarket on Ewen Avenue, according to GasBuddy.com (see list below).
That's an increase of 11 cents from $1.73 per litre at the same station from last Friday, Feb. 23.
However, the number is also one of the lesser expensive prices for fuel in all of Metro Vancouver, as of this publication, March 1.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, recently told Glacier Media while he can't provide predictions on the "micro-timing of gas price increases in Canada," costs should start to climb at this time.
He noted that refinery maintenance typically happens during "shoulder seasons" and can slow down production.
"Broadly, we believe that gas prices are beginning their seasonal rise as refinery maintenance and the transition to summer gasoline come into play."
The largest known uptick in New West gas prices was 13 cents — $1.89 from $1.76 per litre at the Chevron and On The Run on Brunette Avenue.
The city's average price sits at $1.87 per litre, two cents more than $1.85 last week.
Meanwhile, there's one gas stop in all of B.C. that's offering gas for less than $1.50 per litre.
Tempo off Mabel Lake Road in Enderby is selling fuel for $1.49 per litre — located more than 460 km northeast of New Westminster.
