Another long weekend is here, and New West residents may likely take advantage of the expected sunny weather by going for a drive.
The good news: prices at the pump have dropped significantly in the last week as refineries south of the border have completed fall maintenance.
GasBuddy.com's latest report shows the cheapest available in Burnaby is $1.75 per litre at the Petro Canada on 12th Street.

That's a 25-cent decrease compared to last Friday, Sept. 29.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, told Glacier Media that gas prices may continue on a downward trend in the weeks to come.
He pointed to refinery issues in California as the source of Metro Vancouver's sky-high fuel costs. In addition to repairs following a rare tropical storm, many refineries undergo fall maintenance at this time of year.
While he expected that prices wouldn't fall below the $2 per litre mark until mid-October, the analyst stressed that "all it takes is a little bit" of improvement at the refineries for prices to let up.
New West fuel stations, as of this publication, Oct. 6, are averaging $1.79 per litre.
The cheapest gas in the province is $1.62 per litre at the Tempo in Farmington — roughly 25 km north of Dawson Creek.
