Christmas tends to be a time of year when people seem more than willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Many local organizations benefit from the generosity of residents at Christmas - and throughout the year. The Record's annual Guide to Giving provides information about local non-profit groups where you may want to make a donation or volunteer your time.
While experiences vary from organization to organization, some groups have reported success with the Guide to Giving.
"We got boxes of stuff dropped off here. It worked really well," said Westminster House's Susan Hogarth about items such as anti-perspirant and scarves that were donated after last year's Guide to Giving. "We were just so grateful. It was like Christmas for us."
The Guide to Giving includes a listing of non-profit organizations to give readers some choices of where to volunteer their time, give goods or donate cash. Whether it's groups helping the homeless or less fortunate, children or animals, the guide helps inform residents about non-profit groups in need of their help.
The Record will publish the Guide to Giving in a mid-December issue of the newspaper.
