A new garden store that recently opened at River Market is offering a bounty of unique greenery including living stones, which sprout flowers, glass terrarium plants and soil-less plants.
KJM Urban Gardens opened its second location in New Westminster and will focus on unique plants for container gardening in small space, says owner Jordan McDonald.
McDonald and his mom, Lori Wotherspoon, launched their flagship country garden centre in the Southlands neighbourhood of Vancouver in 2007. They opened a second, more urban-focused location in New West because they were drawn to the river and were "excited" by the downtown's development.
Also, they trusted River Market director Mark Shieh's vision. It was Shieh who approached KJM Urban Gardens, asking them to join the River Market team.
"We really believe in what he's doing," McDonald says. "We felt like if we came back in 10 years, we would regret the decision to not get in there now. We're excited about what's happening."
McDonald says larger plants from the main store on the west side of Vancouver can easily be shipped on request to New Westminster.
The River Market store is located on the west entrance to the market.
