Hungry cats and dogs in New Westminster could use your help. The New West animal shelter has issued a plea for donations for its food bank.

Now that the pleading eyes of the hungry kitten above have your attention, please stay for this message: The New West animal shelter needs your help.

New Westminster Animal Services' Queensborough shelter runs an animal food bank, providing pet food and supplies to animals in need and organizations around New West.

But the shelves are bare, and the shelter has issued a plea for help.

"Our food bank shelves are empty," it says in a social media post. "If you are able to help us help others, we would be very grateful."

Most needed right now are cat kibble, canned cat food and canned dog food.

You can drop off donations at the animal shelter at 420 Boyne St.
