Get help keeping your new year's resolutions

What's your New Year's resolution? Chances are the library can help you achieve your goal.

What's your New Year's resolution? Chances are the library can help you achieve your goal.

To get you started on your health and fitness plan, the New Westminster Public Library carries a wide array of books such as Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking, Stop Drinking and Start Living, Fitness Made Simple, and The Mayo Clinic on Healthy Weight. DVDs such as Yoga for the Rest of Us and Abs Diet for Women Workout can get you moving in the privacy of your own home.

For financial and career advice, books such as Debt Free Forever, The Smart Canadian's Guide to Saving Money, and Brazen Careerist: The New Rules for Success can help you get ahead. If you always feel too busy, try 100 Great Time Management Ideas or Anthony Robbins' DVD The Time of Your Life.

Research shows that lifelong learning is one of the best things you can do for your mental health. Ask a librarian for help finding books or DVDs that will teach you a new skill, help you study for your tests, or satisfy your craving for a good read. If you're trying to stave off Alzheimer's (or even if you're not), pick up the daily newspaper crossword on the second floor of the library, free while copies last.

People are happier when they feel connected to those around them. Volunteer opportunities are linked on the library's web site, under Resources - Jobs and Careers. Neighbourhoods can be strengthened with ideas from the book Block Parties and Poker Nights. Enjoy your time with loved ones using guides such as Party! Food or Great Walks of Vancouver, depending on your idea of fun. And don't forget the kids. The Siblings' Busy Book or Raising Curious Kids can help everyone have a good time.

A new year means a fresh start for study, activities, health, or finances. With help from the library, you can make your resolution stick.
