The Christmas season is in full swing in the Royal City and there's no shortage of things to do. Here are The Record's staff suggestions for the weekend of Dec. 7 to 9:
1Enjoy the latest performances by Golden Age Theatre Company, which is performing Happily Ever After at Century House this weekend. The play
is about a behind-the-scenes comedy with a fairytale ending. Tickets are $8 for members and $10 for nonmembers and available at the front desk of Century House, 620 Eighth St. The show takes place on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7: 30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1: 30 p.m.
2 Get into the festive spirit at the Vagabond Players' Christmas show, Dear Santa. The Christmas comedy by Norm
Foster runs Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sundays at 2 p.m. between Dec. 6 and 23. A special Saturday matinée is being offered on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Bernie Legge Theatre in Queen's Park. Tickets are $15, or $13 for seniors and students. 3 Celebrate the Spirit of the season at the Van Dop Gallery, when gallery owner Trudy Van Dop presents more than 100 of Canada's contemporary artists in her home gallery. Find festive treats including hand-blown glass ornaments, pottery and paintings. 4Support local animals at the Pet Pictures with Santa event at the New Westminster Animal Shelter on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. Residents are invited to bring their pets to the animal shelter and get a memorable photo of their pet with the jolly old elf. The suggested donation is $10 - with all proceeds going to New Westminster emergency pet services. The animal shelter is located at 231 Ewen Ave.
5Support the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation in Sapperton on Sunday, Dec. 9. That's the
day of the fifth annual tree sale (hosted by Wesgroup and Bluetree Homes) and the sixth annual Santa Shops Sapperton events. The event features carols by school choirs, a visit from Santa Claus, popcorn and hot chocolate and a free gift for the first 100 tree sales.
