Local families looking for something to do during spring break don't have far to go.

The Fraser River Discovery Centre is presenting two programs that offer fun ways for families to discover the world around them.

Children aged five to eight and their parents will have an opportunity to connect with plants on Saturday, March 3 from 12 to 3 p.m.

"With their botanists' notebooks in hand, fami-lies will enjoy a guided tour of the Discovery Centre's Plants Alive! exhibit where they will conduct plant experiments and record their findings," said a press release.

"Challenge your plant knowledge to see if you can identify plants through the smell they emit or the shape, size and colour of the seed just before you cover it with soil for your windowsill garden at home. "

Discovery Centre will wrap up spring break on Friday, March 23, from 1 to 3: 30 p.m. with a fun hands-on guided tour of the its newest exhibit, the Discovery Zone.

Families with kids aged five to 12 can learn about the Fraser River white sturgeon that lives on the Fraser's muddy bottom, excavate through a simulated archaeology dig to uncover amazing stories about the river, use the centre's "pollution model" to take action to keep rivers and streams clean and learn first-hand how and what pollutes them. They can also watch the National Film Board short film Journey of the Blob in the Canyon Theatre.

The two tours will be offered throughout spring break. For dates, times and further information, visit www.fraserriverdiscovery. org.

Fraser River Discovery Centre is located at 788 Quayside Dr. and is open Wednesday to Saturday. Admission is by donation.
