The summer may officially be behind us, but there's no shortage of activities to keep us busy in the Royal City.

This weekend's offerings include Friday afternoon football, a musical celebration at Holy Trinity Cathedral, arts and culture events from the Van Dop Gallery and a photo walk through downtown.

1 Get cheering for a rare Friday afternoon New Westminster Hyacks football game.

The Hyacks host Lord Tweedsmuir of Surrey at Mercer Stadium at 2 p.m. The Hyacks will have their hands full with the upand-coming Surrey opposition, but the Hyacks hope to have starting quarterback Regan Eberding back at full strength for this important match.

Tickets are available at the door.

2 Get celebrating 50 years of music written and composed by George Ryan at the Holy Trinity Cathedral at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2. Ryan's a threetime Jessie Award nominee who has produced a plethora of memorable musical works.

This evening will be a musical extravaganza that showcases works such as Beautiful B.C., We Believe in Music and Dare to Dream.

Tickets are $20 and available by emailing hori41@yahoo.ca or calling the Holy Trinity office at 604-521-2511.

The cathedral is located at 514 Carnarvon. St.

3 Get walking with a photo walk of downtown New Westminster, which will be taking place on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 3 to 5: 15 p.m. as part of the Scott Kelby Fourth Annual Worldwide Photo Walk.

The walk is free and open to anyone who owns a camera.

4 Get arty with B.C. Culture Days, running from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. Culture Days is a threeday celebration that invites every Canadian to celebrate and explore arts and culture.

Locally, Trudy Van Dop, who runs the Van Dop Gallery, is leading the charge.

5 Get in touch with the land and the sea on Saturday, Oct. 1 with the From Land to Sea exhibit at the River Market.

Presented by the Van Dop Gallery and featuring the works of Maggie White, Carole Arnston and Pieter Molenaar, the show runs all day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If you can't see it then, the exhibition continues at the Van Dop Gallery from Oct. 3 to 15.
