New Westminster firefighters are gearing up for a fun post-Easter event.

Members of New Westminster Fire and Rescue Service will visit F.W. Howay Elementary on April 5, when they will take part in an annual Easter egg drop. Firefighters will take the aerial truck to the school, where they will drop kids' creations from high above the students.

While the "winners" are the creations that survive the fall, fire inspector Kathy Ius said most students seem to enjoy watching the items smash when they hit the ground.

HISTORIC PIANO

Irene Carlson is hoping to find a loving home for a piece of musical history. Last November, Carlson rented space in a building at 950 12th St. Now that she's preparing to vacate the space, Carlson is searching for a home for a 1920 piano that was made in New Westminster.

"It's up for sale by a previous owner," she said. "It was built here in New Westminster. It has the serial number of the builder."

Out of respect for the craftsman who built the piano nearly 100 years ago, Carlson believes the small piano should remain in New Westminster.

"There's something magical in this piano," she said.

Anyone interested in acquiring the piano can email Carlson at earth43_ [email protected].
