Ex-Bellie named top defender

Former New Westminster Salmonbellie junior A player Brett Mydske was named the winner of the Gord Nicholson Trophy as the best defender for the second consecutive season in the Western Lacrosse Association.

Former New Westminster Salmonbellie junior A player Brett Mydske was named the winner of the Gord Nicholson Trophy as the best defender for the second consecutive season in the Western Lacrosse Association.

The 25-year-old Langley former firstround pick of the Thunder defender is also in his fourth pro season with the Edmonton Rush of the National Lacrosse League.

The summer league honour was the third straight for the New Westminster product.

In 2011, Mydske was also honoured as the unsung hero in the WLA.

Also earning accolades from the WLA were Dr. Don Hedges as executive of the year and Langley goalie Brodie MacDonald.

MacDonald backstopped the senior A Thunder to the WLA regular season title, fashioning an 8-3-2 record, while posting a league-best 7.51 goals against average and a .821 save percentage.

MacDonald currently tops all keepers in the post season with a playoffbest save percentage of .848 [email protected]
