The City of New Westminster will take action to correct an error in the memory band at Westminster Pier Park.

A public art feature at the park includes a memory band listing places, people, quotes, and things of significance to the city. The name of the city's first female mayor, Mayor Beth Wood is incorrectly spelled Woods.

Dean Gibson, the city's director of parks, culture and recreation, said it's unclear when the S got inserted into the band. He noted that there was no S on the approved drawings or when the city signed off on the project.

A May 2011 staff report to council listing the names to be engraved also spelled Wood's name correctly.

"We will get that cleared up," Gibson said.
