Enjoy breakfast for a good cause

With spring just around the corner, there's no shortage of events to enjoy in the Royal City - including some St. Patrick's Day fun. We're continuing with our popular feature, The Record's Top Five (or more) Things to Do This Weekend.

With spring just around the corner, there's no shortage of events to enjoy in the Royal City - including some St. Patrick's Day fun.

We're continuing with our popular feature, The Record's Top Five (or more) Things to Do This Weekend. Here are our offerings for the March 15 to 17 weekend.

1Enjoy a yummy breakfast and help a local church that strives to help others. The St. Barnabas Church community breakfast takes place on Saturday, March 16 from 8: 30 to 11 a.m. at 1010 Fifth Ave.

The breakfast, which is by donation, is sponsored by the New Westminster Lions. St. Barnabas Church offers outreach programs, including a community lunch and emergency food cupboard.

2Help community groups - and maybe win yourself the fixings for a tasty St. Patrick's Day dinner - at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #20 meat draw. The Eagles are "lambing it up" on Saturday, March 16 in honour of St. Patrick's Day on March 17.

The draw includes a gift basket containing all the ingredients to make a family lamb stew, including the Guinness.

The Eagles' meat draws are held each Friday (5 to 7 p.m.) and Saturday (3 to 5 p.m.) at the Fireside Pub at 420 East Columbia St. in Sapperton.

3Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at one of the city's watering holes on Sunday, March 17, when you're bound to find drink and food specials - and maybe even a green beer.

The Paddlewheeler Pub (in River Market at the Quay) will feature Irish dancers, starting at 3 p.m.

Dublin Castle Neighbourhood Grill was so excited about St. Patrick's Day that its website has featured a clock counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the big day.

until the big da 4 Discover the French "joie de vivre" with free movies presented by the New Westminster chapter of Canadian Parents for French and the National Film Board of Canada.

Two movies will be shown on Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at the New Westminster Public Library auditorium at 716 Sixth Ave: Les yeux noirs/ Private Eyes, a stereoscopic 3D animation adaptation of Gilles Tibo's 1999 children's book, and Le printemps de Melie/Molly in Springtime, a puppet animation for children presenting a traditional tale in a medieval setting.

Both films are presented in French and are suitable for families with children six years and older. All totalled, they will run for 41 minutes.
