Music, dance and Earth Day fun are featured events in the Royal City this weekend. We're continuing with our popular feature, The Record's Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for the April 19 to 21 weekend.
Drop by Ammara Dance Studio's open house and enjoy free classes. In celebration of its fifth anniversary, the dance studio at 40 Sixth St. is offering an entire day of free classes to anyone over the age of 16 on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Classes include yoga, salsa, belly dance, capoeira and more. Classes are 45 minutes long and are by donation - with proceeds going to the Elizabeth Fry Society. For more information and a schedule of the day's events, visit www. ammara.ca.
Celebrate Earth Day in Queensborough by taking part in a community cleanup - or by finding yourself some new treasures. The Queensborough Special Programs committee is hosting the 20th annual Queensweep/ Earth Day neighbourhood cleanup on Sunday, April 21. In addition to the community cleanup, Queensborough residents have been invited to hold garage sales throughout the community - as part of the goal of reusing and recycling. More information about the event can be found on the New Westminster parks, culture and recreation website at www.newwestpcr.ca
Enjoy Family Night with the Spirit of the Children Society on Saturday, April 20 at Douglas College. The event includes a light meal, including baked salmon and bannock, and guest speaker, Dr. Martin Brokenleg. Aboriginal families are encouraged to gather together for this special event, which takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the performing arts theatre. Tickets are free, but seating is limited. Call 604524-9113.
Get your tickets to the Royal City Musical Theatre Society's 2013 production of Oklahoma! before it's too late. The local theatre company is presenting this Rodger's and Hammerstein classic that's considered to be the musical of all musicals. The show runs at the Massey Theatre until April 27. For tickets and information, call 604-521-5050.
Check out the Irish jam that features Celtic entertainment at the Heritage Grill. The fun takes place on Sunday from 4: 30 to 7: 30 p.m. at the restaurant that's located at 447 Columbia St.
