Don't forget to pose with Mr. and Mrs. Bunny

With the sun forecast to shine in New Westminster for much of the Easter long weekend, it's a great time to get out and enjoy springtime in the city. We're continuing with our popular feature, The Record's Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and have a variety of suggestions, including some Easter fun. Here are our offerings for the March 29 to 31 weekend.

1 Celebrate an Easter tradition in New Westminster. Rain or shine, families flock to Queen's Park to enjoy entertainment, including break dancers, children's music, a Latin band, crafts and face painting and other children's' activities. While you're there, you can visit with Mr. and Mrs. Bunny (and have your photo taken for a suggested $2 donation). The petting farm will be open and concession services will be available. Easter in Queen's Park takes place on Sunday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. near Rainbow Playland.

2 Experience music made by musicians from around the world when Big World Band takes to the Massey Theatre stage on Saturday, March 30 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $18 for students, seniors and working artists and $10 for children. For more information or tickets, check out the events listings at www.masseytheatre.com.

3 Treat yourself to an Easter feast - without having to cook or clean up afterwards. Starlight Casino in Queensborough is holding an Easter buffet at its Gateway Grill on Sunday, March 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The buffet costs $14.99. For more information, call 604-777-2946 or visit www.star lightcasino.ca.

4 Drop by the Arts Council of New Westminster gallery in Queen's Park for your final chance to check out the artistic talents of Donna Polos. The Seasoned Fires exhibit wraps up in the gallery (located in Centennial Lodge) on Saturday, March 30. Polos is a fibre artist and watercolour painter. For more information, visit www.artscouncilnewwest. org.

5 Check out one of the newest eateries in town that's making a name for itself at the Plaza at New Westminster Station development. SpudShack Fry Co. features poutine and other delectable dishes that are getting rave reviews from many of its customers. Fish and frites, Frite Chos (nachos made with fries) and a selection of bottled and on-tap beer are making this a new hot spot in New West. The SpudShack is located at #352-800 Carnarvon St. (at the New Westminster SkyTrain station). If you'd like to take a look at its menu before dropping by, visit. www.spudshack.ca. It's open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12 to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

12 to 9 p.m. on Sundays. 6 Take a walk - and plan a walk for your fellow residents at the same time. Local resident Mary Wilson is spearheading a Jane's Walk initiative in New Westminster and inviting residents to offer their own walk in a New Westminster neighourhood. Jane's Walks, which are named for urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs, are held annually during the first weekend in May to coincide with Jacobs' birthday. The walks are intended to be a celebration of what's great about the urban neighbourhoods that we live in. So take a walk this weekend - and then contact Wilson about leading a free walk through a neighbourhood. The goal is to explore neighbourhoods and meet neighbours. For more information about the New Westminster walks, email Mary Wilson at gardenerwilsonm@ hotmail.com.
