Doctors’ network sets up directory for New West community services

Online directory intended to ease access to services like mental health, seniors services and housing
The Fraser Northwest Division of Family Practice Society, a patient care and physician support network, has set up a new directory to free and low-cost community services.

A new initiative is aiming to improve access to low-cost or free services, whether it’s housing resources or mental health supports, in the New Westminster area.

The Fraser Northwest Division of Family Practice Society launched a public community service directory for New West and the Tri-Cities area in partnership with Pathways. The online directory offers 24 different categories, from addictions and housing/shelter services to seniors and youth services.

“We are excited to offer a new public service to our community that is supported by the local family doctors,” said Paras Mehta, co-chair for the Fraser Northwest Division of Family Practice Society, in a press release.

“Having a public directory where patients can access resources and supports will allow them quick and easy access to these services they may not know about.”

The website, which offers access to details like location, cost and contact information, also provides links to documents, videos and websites reviewed by a clinical committee related to each issue.

“We are working closely with our local community partners to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is available in a timely manner,” said Kristan Ash, executive director for the Fraser Northwest Division of Family Practice Society.

Pathways launched the community service directory for the first community, Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows, in May 2019. There are an additional five communities working towards launching Pathways in their respective areas, including Hope-Agassiz, Burnaby, Sea to Sky, North Shore and Central Okanagan.
