A veritable feast for the eyes and a treat for documentary film buffs in town, the second annual New West Doc Fest is happening this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19 and 20 at Douglas College.

The weekend will feature cutting-edge and award-winning films that focus on the environment and social justice issues, as well as live music and theatrical entertainment.

An opening reception at 7 p.m. on Oct. 19 will kick off the event, with the feature documentary screening at 8 p.m. in theatre 2201 (adjacent to the library).

The featured film, called Chasing Ice, is about a photographer who measured the receding glaciers and witnessed first-hand the implications of global warming, taking "jaw-dropping photography and video" of what he saw.

The festival continues on Oct. 20 from noon to 9: 30 p.m. with more compelling films that promise to educate and inspire dialogue to influence positive change in our society.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and $20 for a full pass - available online or at the door.

Douglas College students get in free with valid student card.

The college is located at 700 Royal Ave. in New Westminster.
