NDP leader Adrian Dix dropped by the Royal City to help New Westminster NDP candidate Judy Darcy officially open her campaign office on Saturday.

"New Westminster has a long history of strong representatives who fight for working people," Dix said. "In Judy we have an excellent candidate who will continue that tradition. Judy is a natural leader, an excellent manager and an inspirational person."

Retiring MLA Dawn Black, Burnaby-New Westminster MP Peter Julian and more than 150 supporters attended the opening of the office at 1192 Eighth Ave. Dix said the NDP is running a "people-powered" campaign.

"I'm so honoured by the outpouring of support I have received since announcing my candidacy," Darcy said in a press release. "On the doorsteps, in coffee shops, at the market, people are excited about the NDP."

The provincial election is being held on May 14.

"The hunger for change is palpable," Darcy said. "You can taste it, you can feel it."
