Construction of a presentation centre for a Sixth Street development was temporarily halted but is now proceeding.
Frank Durante, the city's manager of building inspections, said a sales centre is being constructed at 258 Sixth St. for a new condo development. Construction was halted because building started without a permit.
"It was a hiccup," Durante said. "The want to get going as fast as they can. They jumped the gun."
The highrise will include 11 live-work units and 64 residential units.
According to Durante, the presentation centre will remain in place until its developer achieves a certain number of pre-sales. At that time, it will come down and a sales centre will open elsewhere.
Durante confirmed that the city had placed a stopwork order on the presentation centre, but the order has since been removed, and the building permit has been issued.
Durante said the next step will be for the developer will be to get a permit for the interior of the presentation centre. At that time, city staff will go back to the site and check that everything is fine.
City council last dealt with the project in 2008, when it rezoned the site to accommodate the live-work units. The site already had zoning in place for a highrise.
