A deer that was spotted wandering through the Glenbrooke North and Queen's Park neighbourhoods on Sunday has died after it was shot with a tranquilizer gun.

According to the Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C., they received a number of calls on Sunday about the deer, but were told by conservation services that officers were monitoring the scene.

Officers observed the deer wandering down Royal Avenue for some time, keeping it off the street, before shooting it with a tranquilizer gun. The deer was removed by the officers for a medical exam, but a few hours later the deer was dead.

On Sunday night, New Westminster residents such as Patrick O'Connor and Daniel Fontaine tweeted about deer sightings along the Fifth Street boulevard and on Sixth Avenue.
